Collaborative Communication:

Feel good, get better results

What is Collaborative Commnication?

We all struggle to act with as the best version of ourselves at times. When we feel threatened, unheard, or frustrated we make unconscious decisions that can our hurt relationships and our chances of getting what we want.

Science understands the physiological changes that prevent us from being who we’d like to be in these challenging moments. And it understands how to move past them.

The Collaborative Communication workshop exposes simple principles that will allow you to improve your collaboration with anyone, strengthen relationships, and get more of what you want.

You are immensely
powerful when you
communicate collaboratively
with instead of
against the other.

Who can benefit from Collaborative Communication?

Have you ever lost your temper and wish you hadn’t? Have you ever bottled up strong opinions or emotions because you didn’t know how to share them without causing a scene?

If you answered yes to either of these questions, Collaborative Communication can help you. You’ll learn some techniques that will help you express yourself more clearly and gently. But much more importantly, you’ll finally understand two principles fundamental to communicating openly:

  1. Why high emotional situations can be so challenging for us

  2. Why we often understand others much more poorly than we think

Armed with this new understanding, you will negotiate with more confidence and impact. You will be able to invite hostile or defensive others into collaborative dialogue. You will deepen your relationships, even in the middle of conflict. You will make better decisions, and avoid costly mistakes.

Hi, I’m Rich Coburn. I have spent more than 15 years navigating the world of collaborations and networking in my freelance career as a pianist, vocal coach, and organist. But I’m naturally somewhat introverted and conflict avoidant. I didn’t know how to build the relationships my career needed to thrive. I didn’t know how to negotiate or collaborate when others had objectives different from mine. And my career suffered for it.

Today I am trained in civil and commercial mediation, and am an avid student of human interaction and communication. I’ve negotiated a 2x fee increase with people who previously refused to even discuss a raise. I love going to networking events, even though I’m still an introvert. And I want to share the secret I’ve learned: you are immensely more powerful when you communicate collaboratively with the other. That is, when you stand beside them and attack the problem together. I want you to learn to do this too.
